“In 2013 during the England V Scotland friendly, a few of us were in the pub watching it and got speaking about the upcoming 7s league about to start. We joked about entering a team, but after a few beers of course. A week before the league started my brother started a group chat for a team and we scraped together 8/9 guys. In our 1st match we lost 10-1 but celebrated our goal like we won the World Cup, despite been 9-0 down at the time. We went on to win just 3 games in our 15 and finished 13th in league. But everyone enjoyed it.
The 11s season was just a few weeks away after this and we managed to get a few more bodies into the team and entered our team into the CFL 11s. In our 1st season we not to surprisingly finished bottom of the league winning just one match. We did however make it to the semi final in the cup and took the eventual league champions to extra time after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes. We eventually lost 4-2 and went out. Since then we have had our team in every CFL comp going. We have had our fair share of low moments (more than I care to mention) but these included finishing bottom in the 11s league on 2 occasions. Getting beat by a team 22-1. And a year ago losing in a final on pens. We have ha our moments though. We became the 1st ever winners of the Crown Cup. We played in a comp of teams of a higher level than us ( The Gambia 7s) and amazingly won the comp, becoming just the 2nd CFL team ever to win it.
Finishing 2nd in the Back 8s. And this year are on course for our highest ever points total in an 11s season. We also had one of our players voted as the CFL player of the year 2 seasons ago. We have only been together for 6 years now, but have grown to be one of the biggest teams in the league. We are also now sponsored by The Crown Inn one of the most popular pubs on the Island. We continue to grow and improve and have also recently signed up to Pendles Club Shop & Club+ apps, which are proving popular with those that use that at this time. Hope you enjoyed our very short history.”
