£15,468.55 raised for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
Earlier this year we supported and sponsored the Sheffield Fans Derby. We were delighted to hear that the event raised a massive £15.488.55 for charity.
On 2nd May 2024, the event was held at Hillsborough Stadium for the first time and raised a record-breaking amount for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. It was the 19th time the event has been held since it started in 2008. During that time, Sheffield Fans Derby has raised an amazing £100,270.55.
What is the Sheffield Fans Derby?
The Sheffield Fans Derby is an 11-a-side football match between fans of Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday. Each year, they raise money for a chosen charity. The event has previously been held at some great venues. These include:
- Bramall Lane
- Rotherham United FC
- Don Valley Stadium
- Sheffield FC, Hallam FC
- Penistone FC
- Staveley MWFC
- SUFC Academy
An Event Close to Our Hearts
Pendle has a personal connection to Sheffield so were delighted to get involved. Firstly, Phill Hall started the company back in 1977. Secondly, both Phil and his son Steve Hall, our managing director, are die-hard Sheffield Wednesday fans. Add this to the fact that the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice is such a deserving cause and you can see why we wanted to do our bit. We were more than happy to supply printed training t-shirts for each player in each team.
A Few Words From the Event Organisers:
- Iain Atkins: “I would like to thank everyone who got involved in SFD19 and helped us to raise this outstanding amount for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. To see just over 15k raised from a game of football is absolutely amazing and credit to each and every player, spectator, sponsor. We really couldn’t have done it without any of you. I still cannot put into words what it means for us to have also broken through the 100k barrier for money raised for local Charities since 2008. Never did I ever expect us to get through the thousands raised, let alone hundred thousands.
- Neil Tilbrook: “Wow! The event, as always was phenomenal, but to smash through the £100,000 barrier is the icing on the cake! Thanks to all that have been part of SFD to date, without each and every one of you this wouldn’t have been possible. See you in 2025 for SFD20!”
- Andy Blakeman: “I want to say thank you to everyone that has donated! It’s yet again, an unbelievable amount that we’ve raised, for such a good cause. For us to hit the big milestone over all, is something that we can all be proud of, and I’m proud to again be apart of this great campaign, that’s doing its part for the community!”
- Danny Taylor: “It was a pleasure to once again be involved with the Sheffield Fans Derby event, this time to raise funds for Bluebell Wood. This is a wonderful local charity, providing much needed services to the community. It continues to be a privilege to see a famous footballing rivalry in the city that invented the beautiful game, used for the benefit of local charities.”
Over £100,000 Raised in Total Since 2008
On Friday 11th April 2008, Woodbourn Road Athletics Stadium was the home of the first-ever Sheffield Fans Derby. A group of friends came together to raise money for Sport Relief. The 28 players and 1 referee managed to raise £273.10. Since then, the fundraising efforts have just got better and better. We’ve seen:
- 19 SFD events
- 3 SFD bike rides (290 miles combined)
- 1 Lee Patrick Memorial Cup match
- 1Rupert’s Big Night Out event.
“I would like to say thank you to everyone who has been involved, participated, donated, attended, hosted us over the years, without all of you none of this would have been possible.”
£100,270.55 raised overall since 2008.
“I still cannot put into words what it means for us to have also broken through the 100k barrier for money raised for local Charities since 2008. Never did I ever expect us to get through the thousands raised, let alone
hundred thousands. We are fortunate enough to have been able to do something we love to raise so much vital money to help so many different people.”
