Today’s the first day of the UEFA Euro 2024 and the start of one month of great football. To celebrate, we’ve created a handy guide to the tournament. We’ll give you a roundup of this year’s competition, historical facts, and stats.
When did the Euros start?
2024 marks the 17th. The Euros was first held in 1960. The tournament has run every 4 years since. However, the pandemic postponed the 2020 competition for a year.
Back in 1960, 17 teams competed in the European Nations Cup. This didn’t include teams like West Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and England because they’d all voted against the tournament’s creation in 1957.
Where is Euro 2024 being held?
Euro 2024 takes place in Germany from the 14th of June to the 14th of July. Teams will play 51 games over 22 matchdays. Berlin will host the final match with 71,000 fans attending the Olympiastadion.
How many teams are competing in 2024?
There will be 24 teams taking part in the final tournament. Germany was automatically entered and the European Qualifies decided the twenty teams that would join the host nation. Finally, the playoffs in March confirmed the final three teams.

Who are the favourites for Euro 2024?
Who will win Euro 2024? It’s a question everyone is asking but we’ll have to wait until July to find out. But who is the favourite team to win this year?
According to Statista, England is the favourite to win with about a 20% chance of winning. The team made it to the final in 2021, so they’ll be keen to get their first win this year. France is joint-favourite with a 19% chance of success. Will they be able to make up for their 2022 World Cup Final defeat?
Hosts Germany also have favourable odds and will be hoping to snatch their fourth win this year. Unfortunately, Italy, the reining champions, don’t fare so well with a 5% chance of a consecutive win.
Which country has won the most Euros titles?
This year’s hosts currently have 3 wins which sees them tie with Spain for the most titles. Following them with 2 wins are France and Italy. Then the remaining winners are the Netherlands; Czechia; Slovakia; Russia; Greece; Denmark; and Portugal.
