Donating Your Football Kits To Charity
A guide to recycling your old football kit
What do you do with your old football kits? Have you ever thought about donating them? Many old kits still have plenty of life left in them and there are plenty of people who don’t have access to their own kit. There are plenty of charities working in disadvantaged parts of the world that are crying out for old kits. So, next time you update your kits, you can make a decision that can have a positive impact on someone’s life.
Why donate football kits?
Quite simply, it’s a great thing to do. It’s environmentally friendly and can give people all over the world access to kits. We believe that everyone should be able to enjoy playing football and should have access to kit and equipment. In the past, Pendle has regularly worked with the Thembalethu Foundation to provide kits and equipment to young people in Africa. It’s a really simple thing that clubs can do to help people who just want to play football.
Where can I donate old football kits?
If you have any second-hand kit that you would like to donate, there are plenty of options available. The charity KitAid has been sending kits to Africa since 1988. So far, Kits 4 Causes has sent 70000 kits to 50 different countries. Kits for the World started sending kits around the world in 2010.
We’re sure that our kits could almost last forever, but we understand that at some point you might want to update your look. You can still put your old Pendle kit to good use. Something that Karen McGowan recently confirmed when she got in touch with us. She outlined the fantastic journey of a second-hand Pendle kit. Hear her story below.
A Great Story From Malawi
“I come from Malawi, was born there and still spend a great deal of time there. I get involved in a lot of sponsorship, supporting the underprivileged, putting kids through schools and college etc. In 2009 my Godson and four other young lads from the UK visited after doing their A levels, all mad about football and asked if there was anything they could bring and so we said if there were any second hand football kits going, that would be so welcome as our farm team would love it. So they brought several kits. Amongst the kits was one made by your company (Pendle Sportswear). On googling you I am thrilled to see you are still making kits and still have the same phone number too. However, what is more amazing, is the team is still wearing the kit for matches 14 years later (bearing in mind it was second hand when it came to Malawi). Now I’d say that was quality!
I thought this would please you to hear how much use they have given so many players. Some of them don’t have boots, the tops are kept at the farm manager’s house and washed after every match. Your company’s kit has been used to play in many a match in Malawi. They have been cherished all these years, thank you for the quality!”
Quality That Lasts
We were so pleased that Karen reached out to us and it’s wonderful to hear that our kits are still going strong after 14 years! Especially as they’ve been doing so much good. No doubt they’ve seen plenty of action on the pitch in that time.
A Reason To Donate
Stories like these are evidence of the positive impact kit donations can have on less fortunate communities. So, what are you waiting for? Donate your old football kits to one of the charities mentioned above and make a difference worldwide.
Please note that Pendle does not act as a middleman for donating your kit. If you are wanting to participate, please contact the charities directly to donate football kits.
