“Kiveton Park FC is the oldest club in Rotherham. Formed in 1881, we have provided a recreational outlet for our village for well over 130 years. Kiveton is a pit village, and the football club and colliery ran hand in hand for over a century. Many famous players were produced here – the great Herbert Chapman and his brother Harry, England International Bert Morley, Manchester United title winner Leslie Hofton and Birmingham City legend Walter Wigmore among them.
We have played in the FA Cup, FA Amateur Cup and FA Vase, and for many years we were members of the Yorkshire League and Northern Counties East League, but when the colliery closed in 1994, the village fell to its knees. We have endured tough times since then, and last year we left our home ground of over a century to move in at Wales High School, but a lot of hard work has gone in to ensure our 17 teams and 300 players have the best possible facilities we can provide.
We don’t have much money, and the club is run by a small band of volunteers who dedicate a large part of their lives towards putting the club back on the football map!”
